CITYCROSSING AND THE MIXC SHENZHEN

Citycrossing is an enormous development that comprises a 28story office tower, the MIXc mall shown here, the new Grand Hyatt Hotel, Park Lane Manor residences and a large pedestrian street with the largest LV shop and other luxury brands. I was GM of the ice arena and Vice GM of Citycrossing from 2004 to 2008.

Lucas and Jim He

Two very good friends in Shenzhen (and brothers) are Lucas and Jim He. They work at the new Shangri La Hotel there.

IRELAND, ENGLAND, WHERE IS THIS GARDEN

This beautiful setting is Jerry Thayer's garden at his upstate New York retreat. The ruins of an old home sit on his property and serve as a natural setting for this very beautiful and peaceful garden.

CHANGING AREA OF SHENZHEN RINK

This is the changing area of the rink. If it looks colorful, it really is. Very nice decoration, plenty of free lockers and live plants give the room a warm feeling. Large spacious restrooms, a dance studio, a snack bar with tables and live internet connections as well as WiFi.

OUR FIRST LARGE RINK IS IN SHENZHEN

This is an evening shot of the World Ice Arena in Shenzhen which was the first rink to open in the city in many years. Later in 2007 other rinks began to open including Window of the World's enormous rink, the smaller rink at Coastal City and even smaller rink at the Holiday Plaza mall. Our rink still reigns as the best and with the most professional management and operation, and the best location. Only 5 minutes from the Lowu border crossing into Hong Kong and across the street from Diwang tower, the tallest building in Shenzhen.

ONE OF MY VERY BEST FRIENDS.

Christopher Chan, a Hong Kong guy, who later went to Univ in California, then lived there until 2008. He's married to a beautiful nurse and has the heart of gold. Such a great guy to know and have as a friend.

LAKE TAHOE

I took this photo at the top of a mountain on a ski trip to "Heavenly" ski resort in 2007. Actually the mounts on the far side are in Nevada and on this side are in California. The lake itself is the top of a huge volcano. Best skiing in America is here.

MY FRIEND TONY WONG

Tony is a friend from Hong Kong, pictured here with Gaga, my beautiful Bichon dog. Tony lives now in Sweden. He graduated from Univ in Hong Kong with medical degree and promptly dropped the idea of being a doctor after he went to Sweden to live. Plays the Sax and the Piano extremely well and does a nice double salchow on the ice.

TANIA, MACHIKO WITH LITTLE NINA

Apologise for now knowing Tania's husband's name but this photo take just after the birth of Nina at a hospital on the Reunion Islands off the coast of Africa. Both Tania and husband are doctors in Paris and she used to be one of my top skaters appearing in all of my shows. Machiko works for Air France at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

AN AMAZING ANIMAL

It always amazes me how some animals can just staight to your heart and this little Yorkie, named Ginger, did just that. She could stare at you so intently that you know shes reading your mind. Instant love to anyone who meets her. She lives at my Laguna Hills home and now calls Mike Novales her papa and master.

WITH MOVIE STAR TONY LEUNG

This photo taken outside Cirque du Soliel show in Hong Kong with Movie star Tony Leung Kar Fei, his wife and twin daughters. We all went together to see the show. His kids used to take lessons at our rink and we became friends. If any of you remember the film called "The Lover", Tony was the star of that film which made headlines around the world because of its content and nudity.

OLD PHOTO, YOUNG ME

This photo taken backstage at one of my first ice shows in Dubai at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Damn.....wish I still look like that.

ROBIN LAM IN SUN VALLEY

This is Robin Lam, a great friend who used to be a student at our school and later a coach. This photo taken in Sun Valley, Idaho, when we all went to the ISI Winter Classic competition.

ONE DOG TO GO PLEASE.....

This Bichon dog was happiest inside a shopping bag. I never knew why but he would jump into any bag and stay there, so I just hung hom on the doorknob. His name is Gaga....A lovely wonderful dog.

WITH BRIAN BOITANO

In 1986 Brian Boitano won the World Championships in Geneva, Switzerland. I was privliged to be there. Later in the summer, we ran into him again at the Harlick factory in San Francisco. The little girl is Isabelle Jacquemart and her brother Oliver from Belgium. The guys are Lloyd, Andrew, Brian and myself.

VIEW OF KAI TAK AIRPORT IN HONG KONG

You can see I had a great view of planes taking off and landing at the old airport in Hong Kong. It was on one stormy day that the next photo was taken of a China Airlines 747 400 landing in the water.

ONE STORMY DAY IN HONG KONG.......

In 1994, while sitting at my desk at Cityplaza, I saw a brand new 747-400 go off the end of the runway at Kai Tai Airport and into Victoria Harbour. The plane floated about and people poured out onto the wings. The plane's tail was later blown off at 6am because it was deemed a hazard for planes landing. The plane sat in the water for about 10 days before they brought it out. The China Airlines (Taiwan) plane was the second of two major crashes in Hong Kong. The next one was at the new airport when the plane flipped upside down and slid down the runway. You can see that crash on www.airdisaster.com

WHO IS THIS HANDSOME YOUNG SKATER??

Well, dear friends, it's yours truly. This photo taken about 100 years ago for a spread in a New York newspaper and for publicity on an ice show that I helped to organize for the city of New York.

WHAT IS A ZAMBONI

For my friends who do not know already, a Zamboni is not a generic term but a real machine that can turn an rough sheet of ice into a mirror finish in just minutes. It's made in Paramount, California by the Frank J. Zamboni company. Its been my pleasure to know these people for many many years and I love going to their factory to see how they put these machines together. Zamboni is the ROLLS ROYCE of ice resurfacing machines and truly the best friend a skater could ever hope to have.

THE NEW DUBAI MALL ICE RINK

This Olympic size ice rink located in the Dubai Mall has only just opened. The mall is the world's largers with more than 1,200 stores. In addition to this big rink, they have the world's largest indoor acquarium.

SUNWAY LAGOON HOTEL IN KUALA LUMPUR

This is the spectacular Sunway Lagoon Hotel where we always stayed during Skate Asia competitions. It is joined by the huge Pyramid Mall, and the Lagoon seen in next photos.

THE SUNWAY LAGOON

Too bad I don't have a panoramic photo of this place as there is water pools in every direction faced on one side by the enormous Sunway Pyramid mall and on the other by the beautiful Sunway Lagoon Hotel.

PYRAMID MALL IN KUALA LUMPUR

The Pyramid shopping mall, where there is an ice rink which my company built, sits high above a lagoon where there are major water features, surf pools, etc. This place is a must see in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

GRAND HYATT SEOUL ICE RINK

Glad to say I had a hand in this ice rink at the beautiful Grand Hyatt Seoul in Korea. The hotel GM, Peter Walshaw, was my boss in Dubai. He is now one of the Vice President's of the international division for Asia. This ice rink is only open in winter and sits directly on top of their swimming pool.

THE SKI DOME IN TOKYO

Unfortunately this incredible place is no longer there, but when we were in Tokyo in 1997, it was one big monster of a building and skiing was just like outside on a real mountain. You can see from this photo that the ski field is enormous. This photo shows Peter Martel (blonde hair), standing on the show with someone else. We were in Tokyo to hold discussions with ISI on starting ISIAsia, which we did successfully on January 1, 2000
